Our inspector Bob Enders found this in the attic during a recent inspection. Either the homeowner or a “creative” handyman had run bathroom vents without fans up to the attic. There they were attached to a Radon fan, which is not this device’s intended application. In theory the fan could draw air from the bathrooms into the attic. The “best” case scenario with this setup is that the fan would be pulling humid air from the bathrooms into the attic, potentially creating a serious moisture issue because it’s not vented to the outside. In this case however, this homemade solution had failed as the duct had become disconnected from the Radon fan. This well-meaning but poorly engineered and poorly installed solution is just one of many reasons why home inspections are worth every penny!
